In short: QR Studio does not collect, sell or share any personal data. Everything happens on your device, the extension works offline, and it makes no requests to our servers or anyone else’s.
Who we are
QR Studio – Generator & Reader (“QR Studio”, “the extension”) is a free Chrome extension developed by Sandaruabey and published by FiveNeurals (“we”, “us”).
Information we collect
None. QR Studio has no account system, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. We do not receive the text or links you turn into QR codes, the codes you scan, or any information about the websites you visit.
Information stored on your device
To make the extension useful, a few things are saved using Chrome’s local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on your own computer:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| History of QR codes you created or scanned (the text or link, time, style, and for scans the page title or address where it was found) | So you can find, re-open and edit them later. You can turn history off in Settings, delete single items, or clear it all. |
| Logos you upload and templates you save | So you can reuse them. You can remove them at any time. |
| Your settings and last-used design | So the extension remembers your preferences. |
This data never leaves your browser and is not synced to us. Uninstalling the extension deletes it.
How the extension uses its permissions
| Permission | Use |
|---|---|
activeTab | Only when you start a scan (right-click menu, keyboard shortcut or the Scan button), the extension captures the visible tab so it can find QR codes on screen. It also reads the current tab's address to pre-fill the generator. The screenshot is processed in memory and discarded. |
scripting | Shows the highlight around QR codes found on the page you chose to scan. |
contextMenus | Adds the “Scan” and “Create QR” items to the right-click menu. |
storage | Saves your history, logos, templates and settings locally, as described above. |
Access to all sites (optional) | Only requested if you turn on “Show links on QR codes automatically”. The extension then reads QR-shaped images on pages you visit, on your device, to show their link. It is removed when you turn the feature off. |
Generated QR codes
QR codes made with QR Studio are static: your text or link is written directly into the code. There is no redirect through our servers, so we never see who scans your codes, and your codes never expire.
Third parties
We do not share data with third parties, because we do not collect any. The extension includes open-source libraries for creating and reading QR codes (qrcode-generator and zxing-cpp). They run locally inside the extension and do not send data anywhere.
Children’s privacy
QR Studio does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.
